Einstein said "Nothing happens until something moves"
This applies to physics and to our personal lives. All the good intentions, planning, goals, and concepts don't mean anything until you take action. As important as these things are, nothing will happen until you move. You will stay in a state of inertia until you act. Another law of physics says that more energy is needed to move a stationary object than is required for one that is already moving. That is part of the law of inertia, which states that “A body in motion tends to remain in motion, a body at rest tends to remain at rest.”
If you are stuck "trying" to get something done, or take action, or accomplish some goal, here is something you can do. This is a little different from a lot of advice, but it is just another way of getting to where you want to be. Give yourself "process" markers. Plan your action around small steps. Instead of saying something like "I've got to get that report done by Friday", plan "I will devote one hour at 9:00am tomorrow to work on my outline and major sources of reference as well as write the first paragraph which gives the overview. Before I quit I will schedule the time for the next day knowing what needs to be done by 5:00pm Thursday" Much more concrete and doable.
Instead of saying "I'm going to start that new course of study", say "I will spend 45 minutes at 3:00pm this afternoon reading the first chapter" Measure your success by each step you take, not by falling short of the goal.
"I've got to start meditating/exercising/walking the dog(again), making more calls" changes to "Tomorrow morning, at 6:45am, I commit to 20 minutes of meditating/exercising/walking the dog, calling 8 people" "I know I will do more eventually, but this will be a good start"
Don't be defeated and then avoid the large goal or wish. Find success in small steps in the direction you want to go and don't stop.
Now, here is another factor in your action and forward motion that is not based on outer strategies and tactics. It's the inner process of removing blocks, habits, and patterns that are part of your identity whether they be conscious or unconscious. So much of our mental activity or thoughts that pass through our mind is created out of nothing.
When I say out of nothing, I mean this.... Thoughts will always be passing through our mind. If we are alive, there is mental activity. There are many that are just created out of thin air and are just passing by. You don't have to believe them or identify with them.
Many though, will be familiar, and you will think that is reality, even though they arise from your self constructed patterns of your personality. You take them to be "just the way things are". These include your beliefs that you "can't do it", "can't get started" "something always stops me" or "I'm not good enough" to succeed, be happy, live my dreams.....
These are the false thoughts that pass through your mind that can be seen for what they are - not the real you. So, good discipline and motivation practices can be installed with your intention but even better is to remove the false obstacles to your action.
Remember, part of the law of inertia is “A body in motion tends to remain in motion". That's the good news.
